Good morning, Spokane!

Welcome to June. If you spent the weekend wandering the art booths at the MAC, tracking state championship results, or hearing that a certain world-famous soccer player is headed our way, you had a very Spokane kind of weekend. It's a cooler one today with a high near 67 and a slight chance of showers, so maybe grab that extra layer on the way out.

In today's Spokane Pulse:

  • Mohamed Salah and Egypt's World Cup team are training in Spokane

  • Mead wins a 10th state track championship on a record-breaking throw

  • Spokane Cocktail Week launches with 55 participating venues

  • And much more!

Let's get to it.

Weekend Roundup

⚽ Spokane is about to be on the global soccer map. Egypt's national team, led by Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, will train in Spokane this June ahead of their FIFA World Cup campaign. The 33-year-old is widely expected to be playing in his final World Cup, putting Spokane in the international spotlight.

🏆 Mead's boys track team won the 4A state championship with 55 points, edging Olympia by just two for the program's 10th state title. Senior Simon Rosselli sealed it with a record-breaking discus throw of 223 feet, 11 inches on his very first attempt. The Oregon-bound athlete also won shot put at 68 feet while carrying a 3.96 GPA.

🎨 ArtFest celebrated its 41st year at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture this weekend, with 75 artists and craft makers setting up shop across the Browne's Addition campus. The three-day festival featured ceramics, glass, jewelry, woodwork, live music, and free museum admission all weekend.

🍹 Spokane Cocktail Week kicked off yesterday with 55 bars and restaurants pouring specialty drinks through June 7. Grab a drink passport, catch a cocktail-making class, or pick up a $40 Honorary Bartender Pass with proceeds benefiting Counter Culture, a local nonprofit supporting hospitality workers.

🤣 If you've been to a comedy show in Spokane, you've probably heard Jonathan Tilley's unmistakable laugh. The Inlander profiled Spokane's most dedicated comedy fan, who attends multiple shows a day and was recently presented with an engraved championship ring reading "Spokane's Greatest Comedy Fan." He's a fixture, not a performer, and the comedians love him for it.

Bad news is good business. We never bought in.

Every morning, financial news follows the same script. Headlines panic, coverage catastrophises, and somewhere inside the noise is the story that actually matters — the one that tells you where the opportunity sits, not just where the fear is pointing.

Most sources have stopped looking. The alarm is easier to sell.

The Daily Upside was created by Wall Street insiders for readers who crave real insight over recycled anxiety. Five minutes of global business and finance, before the noise sets the agenda — just the facts, context, and analysis your decisions need.

Join 1M readers — including managing directors and principals at some of Wall Street’s largest institutions — who trust The Daily Upside to filter through the chaos.

The upsides are always there. We’ll find them before breakfast.
