Well, we survived the Fourth. The Great Northern Clocktower chimed for the first time in over a decade, some 35,000 of us crowded into Riverfront Park, and the drones over Airway Heights put on a show. Now for the real test of summer: it's 89 and partly cloudy this morning, with Tuesday threatening to hit 91. Consider this your reminder to move the sunscreen from the junk drawer to the front seat.

🔔 After more than a decade of silence, the Great Northern Clocktower chimed again on Saturday, ringing out over Riverfront Park for the country's 250th birthday. Hundreds gathered beneath the tower, many waving tiny American flags, to hear bells that had gone quiet years ago.

🎆 Roughly 35,000 people packed Riverfront Park for the Fourth of July, boiling the holiday down to three familiar things: freedom, fireworks and food. The annual celebration turned downtown into one long block party well into the night.

🚁 Out in Airway Heights, Northern Quest Casino lit the sky with a 500-drone show and fireworks at 10 p.m., honoring service members and the Kalispel Tribe. The free, all-ages event was one of the region's biggest displays of the weekend.

🌭 The Seattle Dog is famous. The Sonoran and the Chicago have followings too. So The Spokesman-Review asked the obvious question: what should a "Spokane Dog" be? There is no official answer yet, which means it is now your civic duty to have an opinion.
