The sun finally stopped flirting and committed: it's headed for a sunny 83 today, with even warmer days on deck. This weekend nearly 5,000 of us crammed into Riverfront Park to watch the U.S. beat Australia on the big screens, which means we've collectively burned through about a year's worth of vitamin D. Soak it in while you can, because Hoopfest takes over downtown this weekend and the only shade you'll find is behind a free-throw line.

⚽ Nearly 5,000 fans packed the Gesa Pavilion at Riverfront Park on Friday to watch the U.S. men's national team beat Australia 2-0 on the big screens and clinch the top spot in their World Cup group. The free watch party had food trucks, water stations, and shade, and organizers are planning a second party for the July 19 final with $5 tickets.

🎉 Spokane held its 15th annual Juneteenth celebration at Riverfront Park's Hooptown court on Friday, themed "Unfinished Dreams of Freedom." Rogers High grad Michaela Daou, who's headed to Howard University, was crowned Miss Juneteenth 2026, with Habitat for Humanity, MultiCare, and the Carl Maxey Center all taking part.

📬 A 24-truck mail parade rolled past Providence Sacred Heart on Saturday to honor Tony LeClair, a 59-year-old letter carrier with 27 years at USPS and 24 of them on a single Manito route. About 18 colleagues gathered with a banner reading "Keep Fighting, Love, Your Postal Family" and brought his dog Dash to his hospital window.

🎨 The outdoor Bazaar art market brought more than 130 juried makers to Main Avenue outside River Park Square on Saturday, with handmade jewelry, ceramics, leather goods, and art mostly priced under $100. The free, hyper-local market draws roughly 20,000 people a year.

🌲 Two certified Forest Service sawyers, Jeffrey Durocher and Chris Celentano, spent 12 hours clearing 115 downed trees from the 2-mile Revett Lake Trail near Prichard last Thursday. It's part of more than 1,000 trees the pair have cleared in 2026 after December's 85-mph windstorm.
