Good morning, Spokane!

Spokane is heading into costume week. Porch lights are already doing overtime on the South Hill, ballots are sitting on kitchen counters, and Saturday brings the one night when a yard full of skeletons counts as good neighborliness. Grab the candy bowl, check your ballot, and pick a weeknight plan before the ghosts take over.

In today's Spokane Pulse:

  • A 1986 cold case arrest, wildfire aid in its final days, and levies on the November ballot

  • Five weeknight plans: arena rock, indie folk, a Bosch night, standup, and the last Thursday market

  • Photo Mart opens downtown, Trader Joe's heads to the Valley, and magic and comedy lead November

  • And much more!

Let's get to it.

Weekend Roundup

🔍 Spokane police arrest suspect in 1986 cold case: Spokane police arrested 74-year-old David J. Tibbett on Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the 1986 killing of Mary Ann Turner, 32, whose body was found in an East Central Spokane alley on November 4, 1986. DNA evidence helped build the case, police said.

🔥 Wildfire aid applications near their deadline: Residents in Central and Eastern Washington whose homes were damaged or destroyed by wildfires on or after June 14 have only days left to apply for Individual Assistance, which can help with temporary housing, food, and minor repairs.

🗳️ What to know about school and fire levies on the ballot: A dozen school and rural fire districts have proposed levies on the November 3 ballot, mostly to replace expiring local taxes that pay for key services and facility maintenance. Check your district before you vote.

🎃 South Hill Halloween display draws hundreds: James Meeker and his wife have grown their South Hill yard display over five years into a full-yard Halloween experience that draws more than 500 trick-or-treaters each year.

🚧 WSDOT shares progress, timeline for North Spokane Corridor: Girders are now placed over Sprague Avenue, WSDOT says, the Wellesley to Trent section should open in the next two to three years, and the full corridor is projected for completion in the early 2030s.
